Baptisms - We are very happy to Baptise all who seek to join God’s church, but would wish to point out that ‘Baptism is the ceremony used by the Church to welcome new members – adults as an expression of their faith in Jesus Christ and young children and infants based on the faith expressed and practiced for and with them by their parents and God parents. The Church is the Body which Jesus now has on earth and by making this commitment in Baptism adults commit themselves to share in its work and parents and God parents to do the same with and on behalf of their child.’ The commitments that adult candidates and parents and God-parents make are not ones to be taken lightly. Baptism is about a commitment to live life following Jesus, living not for ourselves but for others and especially the marginalized in society Baptism is a commitment to God by parents and God parents to bring their children up within the Church family, to share in worship with them, teach them the essentials of the faith and help them read, study and understand the Bible - God’s love letter to us - and share that faith in deed and word.. This is not simple or easy, and we as the church family are very willing to share in this task and help the parents and God parents keep the promises made to God in the course of the Baptism service. All our Baptisms take place during the normal Sunday worship of our three congregations, some within our Eucharist (Communion) services and and some in other simpler services which many unused to church services might find easier to share in and understand.
Weddings - As with Baptisms we are delighted to share in the happy couples day helping them to have the wedding they want and to bring God’s blessing to the start of their married life. There are however legal guidelines which we have to observe in terms of the service and one of the couple must live within the parish boundaries or be a regular weekly worshipper in the parish for at least six months prior to the wedding date. We are happy also to consider the remarriage of those divorced though this will only take place after a preliminary interview with the vicar. All couples meet the vicar 3 months prior to the wedding, for a discussion..
